An Teallach

It lies to the southwest of Dundonnell and overlooks Little Loch Broom, in an area often nicknamed the "great wilderness". An Teallach means 'The Anvil' or 'The Forge' in Scottish Gaelic.

Walk at Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve

Complex mountain massif in the Torridon area of the Highlands of Scotland. It forms a long ridge with many spurs and summits, two of which are classified as Munros. The name Beinn Eighe comes from the Scottish Gaelic meaning File Mountain.

Loch Ewe & Poolewe

Sea loch on the west coast of the Ross and Cromarty district in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. The shores are inhabited by a traditionally Gidhlig speaking people living in or sustained by crofting villages, the most notable of which, situated on the north-eastern shore, is the Aultbea settlement.

Flights are available from Edinburgh, Belfast, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Bristol and Southampton to Inverness, which is the nearest airport to this area. From Inverness there are also flights onward to Wick, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland. Buses from the airport to Inverness are frequent, with buses running every half hour for most of the day. Achnasheen is the nearest station. This is reached by a connecting train from Inverness. There is also a sleeper service from London that operates throughout the year. Scotrail have a website or can be contacted on 03448 110141.


Opperating all year except Christmas and New Years day is an Inverness service Monday–Saturday operating once a day,(Westerbus) leaving Aultbea/Poolewe/Gairloch in the early morning and returning from Inverness late afternoon (5pm). A Wednesday service from Poolewe/Gairloch Dinwall opperates all year except Christmas and New Years day returning early afternoon.

Driving from Inverness takes around an hour and a half depending on traffic / road conditions.The road has some beautiful scenic parts and is single track for a short section of the road entering Gairloch from the south.
