Gairloch Sands Youth Hostel is a cosy former hunting lodge built in the 1880s. It sits on the northern shore of Loch Gairloch with magnificent sea and mountain views and local sandy beaches.

Gairloch Sands is one of the oldest youth hostels in the Hostelling Scotland network and a popular choice with groups, families and individual travellers looking for budget accommodation. It's also a stop-off point for many cyclists exploring the West Coast and journeying to or from Skye.

With wonderful panoramic views over Gairloch and the Torridon hills, the hostel is one of the top five Scottish Marine Life Watch destinations. Boat trips to watch whales and dolphins are available from the village, which also boasts fine pubs, coffee shops, restaurants, fresh seafood, a weekly market, an award-winning heritage museum, visitor centre and leisure centre.

As well as being convenient for the famous Inverewe Garden there are many fine mountains only a short drive away, including Beinn Eighe, Britain’s first National Nature Reserve, and the Torridon range. Other local activities include pony trekking, kayaking, fishing, golf and traditional distilling.

Dogs are now welcome at Gairloch Sands, for a small fee, when guests book a private room. Please notify us in advance to ensure that a dog friendly room is allocated.
